Loading Map Layers in Collections

Collections help you create and store pre-loaded content, like map layers, for use in events or incidents. To use custom map layers in a Channel, follow these steps below to add them in the Admin Area.

🔑 ACCESS LEVEL REQUIRED: Account Owner or Editor

ℹ️ NOTES:

  • Supported formats are: GeoJson (.json + .geojson), GPS Exchange format (.gpx), Keyhole Markup Language (.kml, .kmz), Shapefile archive (.zip)
  • We extract the name from any shape attribute labeled as "name", "Name", "NAME", "label", "Label", "LABEL", "title", "Title", or "TITLE." Use one of these attributes to ensure the names appear on the map.

⚠️ ATTENTION:

  • Editing existing map layers isn't possible. Delete and reimport for updates.
  • Import file size: For optimal performance, we recommend limiting each layer to 2–3,000 points of interest (POIs). Layers exceeding this range can impact map functionality or account performance.
  1. Go to the Admin Area
  2. Expand Collections
  3. Select Map layers
  4. Click +New Layer
  5. Give the map layer a name, this will be the name that appears in the import dropdown in a channel
  6. Click on the Gear Cog icon
  7. Select Import Layer
  8. Select File or Connect external source from the left hand side
    1. File: Click Select a file, choose a Default layer color and marker icon
    2. Connect external source: Key in the Layer name, Layer URL and choose a Format
      1. Auto-detect will add layers that are fetched periodically (every 15 minutes) from the provided external source

⚠️ ATTENTION: Please note that we won’t be able to access private data stored behind a firewall. You can reference an external source URL where your map data is stored, as long as it's accessible to our servers via remote data.

  1. Click Import or Connect

Now, your map layer is ready to be imported into an open channel, and can be included in a Play automation.
