Minimize Impact: Mitigation

In the emergency management cycle, Mitigation aims to minimize the impact of hazards, whether natural or human-made. While not all are preventable, we can incorporate measures to help reduce the loss and suffering caused by emergencies to people, the environment, assets, and reputation – wherever humans go. These measures might include evacuation plans, design standards, building codes or creating safe spaces around homes to protect against wildfires.

Here are some ways you can leverage D4H to support your Emergency Management Agency (EMA) in the Mitigation stage of the emergency management lifecycle.

Incident Reporting

  • Create visuals of your past incident data as charts and review built-In reports to identify historic patterns and trends in your region. By understanding which trends are increasing, you can look to purchase training and equipment to mitigate them in the future. By identifying which areas are decreasing, you may be able to reduce spend on preventative measures which are no longer necessary.
  • Set up automations of your custom incident reports so you can monitor for keywords or triggers that should be highlighted to you. These highlighted incidents may require further preventative measures.
  • Monitor all actions throughout the entire Emergency Management lifecycle to ensure thorough oversight and management of emergency response operations.
